Public Meeting

In December 2007 a committee was formed to launch an official campaign to protect Moyode Woods. This campaign was launched as a result of local residents receiving a letter from Coillte informing them that 175 acres of Moyode Woods would be sold. Coillte representatives visited some local residents and informed them that Coillte were selling the woods for quarrying, and that there would be two quarries in place of Silke's Wood and the Diamond Wood. On January 14th 2008 a public meeting, which was widely advertised and publicised, was held in St Michael's Hall, Craughwell. Over 300 people attended and there was overwhelming support for the preservation campaign. The meeting was attended by politicians and county councillors who pledged support to the campaign and the community.
